My First Encounter with Death

My Great-Uncle Cecil Eugene Lohn recently passed away and we went down to Houston for his funeral. Here are my thoughts.

1. I am completely astounded by the promise of eternal life that Christ gives us. Wow.

2. What will they say about our generation? He was a WWII vet shot down over Germany and got his crew back to friendly territory, married over 60 years to his high school sweetheart and worked at the same company for over 30 years.

3. I want stories like his! Part of the reason his funeral was so great was because everyone who ever met him has at least one hilarious story. I feel like there wasn't an overwhelming feeling of mourning because he lived life to the fullest.

4. No matter what my family says I am NOT naming my child Cecil Eugene.

5. I love that 99% of my family members were there, shows how much we love each other.

6. My favorite memory of Cecil is him riding the mechanical bull at our wedding a few years back and he tried to become the unofficial photographer of our wedding. My photographer had to crop many a picture to keep him out of every shot.
