Wonderfully Busy

Life has been so good lately -

• Rolls stayed in the oven for 3 days (oven off)
  
• Sheets stayed in the washer for 3 days
• I've used 412 cell phone minutes
• I have an interview for the job I've been holding out for next week
• My favorite co-worker came from Florida, she was the best shopping buddy I ever had. Better than Granny, more stamina. Loved sales.
• Hailey came from Mississippi to find a house. Long story short, Landon was my Sr prom date (only as friends) he fell in love with this sweet girl, I had a science class with her my first semester at Tech, end of the story. We were so thrilled when we heard they were coming to Tinker, huge blessing from God! Yes that its the same outfit because this was all one day.
• Where is Brian you ask? I bought him Band of Brothers.
  

Baby Steps

Brian is very bad for me. He makes me go to bed early. He makes me not go to Braums every single time we pass by. He makes me not spend all of his money on clothes. He makes me very thankful and happy, and worst of all, he makes run.
Poor guy, I'm sure some passerby would think I am the worst person in the world. Talk about road rage, I get insanely angry when I run. Its definitely getter better because my pain is either decreasing or my pain tolerance is increasing. At the beginning any encouragement he might whisper like "You're doing good" or "Breathe" or "You're doing great sweetheart" was met with a vicious snarl and a "DONT TALK TO ME!" Praise God he has never left me on the side of the road, like I deserve, but has continued to encourage and motivate me. A few other people have provided some motivation along the way, if they can do it I can do it? I have way more respect for them than I ever thought I would.
Enough babbling, to the 5K! Neat run in the Oklahoma City Stockyards called Run with the Bulls. I'm pretty sure we ran along the cattle route and we definitely resemembled a herd of cattle. There was a huge bridge that went over the river, really pretty but I'm not sure what these people are thinking putting a massive bridge in the middle of the run. But I got my number and t-shirt and I loved it! Am I going to tell you my time? No way.

Things I learned from running my very first ever race....
1. It takes a lot of road cones to have a race.
2. You will be up before the sun.
3. There is a dress code. I did not meet the cool standard.
-Cool: running shorts with mesh pockets to store your energy bars, goop, and snacks;arm sweatband to hold your ipod; shoes that have seen more miles that my car; short short running shorts with a slit on the side to show even more
- Not Cool: Soffee shorts (me), t-shirt not mentioning running (me), sunglasses (me), no shirt at all (old hairy man)
4. Anyone can do it. Seriously. I saw 2 wheelchair participants and 1 blind runner. Amazing display of the human spirit.
5. Some people are not meant to run. Their bodies were just not made for it. Somebody should have told them, "hey you look ridiculous, maybe you should swim"
6. If I ever see any of you put your 6 year old in a 5k I am calling Child Protective Services.
7. I need a super cute running suit modeled by Carah below, I am convinced it would make me run faster.
8. Support is amazing. I will never run alone. I need Brian.
9. Its fun to wave to your friends as the pass you.
10. I will do it again. The weather was the best we've had all summer, got down to 60's last night in August. Cloud cover, breeze, just a flat out beautiful morning.




I called my mom to tell her I was running a 5K and her only comment was "WHY?" I love my mom. So realistic. Quick note, yes John and Carah fit the cool category and are wearing sunglasses which is in the not cool category, BUT they only put them on after the race. Categories still stand.

A group of about 12 LTs get a promotion this month and we are getting together tomorrow to celebrate. I just hope it tastes good!

62 years

This is my mom's parents, Jeanette and Martin (Arthur B! when he is in trouble, and if anybody else but Granny calls him that their in trouble, too!). Yesterday was their 62 wedding anniversary, can you believe in 1947 Granny had her wedding dress made for twenty dollars? While I love my other grandparents and Brian's grandparents, everyone knows they are my favorite. Probably because I am JUST like her. Her favorite pastime is shopping and shoe collecting, she was a shoe model in the 40's (glamorous) and I wish everyday I had her feet. She's great in the kitchen, and everything I know about desserts came from her and my mom. She's a born and bred Texan and has a great family history and her grandfather has a tiny town in central Texas named after him. He headed up a petition for a post office but on the paper left out a name for the post office so they just filled in his name, Lohn, and so it was born! Alas she had to go off and marry a yankee (he gets called that too when he's in trouble) from Michigan who was down in TX for the war. She loves telling about the first time he came to the house and her and mother were watching through the windows, "He didn't stand a chance in that uniform!" He was sent to Japan and she still has old yellowed telegraphs he sent her and as soon as he got back they were married at her beloved TCU. He had to finish school in Michigan and their pre-nup was they had to move back to Texas ASAP! Within a year they were. Grandad was an engineer and always built things with his hands. I remember he was building a two-story dollhouse and he glued little wooden shingles on one at a time. He wasn't able to finish it before he lost his eyesight. Now he loves listening to music programs and old musicals. They raised a great family, full of hard-workers and lots of humor. We took them out to eat lunch yesterday and they had such a good time. They love that Brian is in the service and swapping stories with him. We've been able to see them alot this summer and I think thats a good thing, I pray with all my heart there will be 63 next year.
