Subject: Congratulations to Our Pilot Training Selectees!

America's Wing,

Please join me in congratulating two of our own selected for Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training:

Capt Sean E. Griffin, 963 AACS
Capt Brian C. Pillers, 963 AACS

Selection to pilot training is a very competitive and selective process and we look forward to their continued success. Again, congratulations and best of luck in the future!

Cheers,
JOHN T. RAUCH JR., Colonel, USAF
Commander, 552 Air Control Wing

If I know Brian he's running around the halls at Nellis AFB screaming "I feel the need....the need for speed!" A bittersweet day for me, AWACS has been a great home for us and there are so many special people I will miss. But it's a small Air Force and we'll meet again!

The Diary of a Shoe

We're still waiting for our good news, but this weekend I couldn't help but anticipate it's announcement this week and unexpectedly celebrated at one of Dillard's oh so dangerous for the budget "40% off of all already reduced merchandise" sales. Good thing Brian is TDY or I might not have been able to come home. He's only been gone for two days and already I'm resorting to retail therapy. What did I buy? Everything. What do I love the most? What makes me feel more patriotic than serving my family, husband, and country as a military spouse? What makes me the best military spouse ever? Glad you asked.
I couldn't help but start singing "Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me..." and imagine Bob Hope calling me to join the USO tour. Honestly, I don't think the pictures does them justice, the rhinestones are much sparklier in person and the colors are brighter. (You're not seeing them on my feet because my white legs would burn your eyes worse than a solar eclipse) But I really did go kinda crazy when I saw them, it felt almost like I was 9 years old again out shopping for Christmas toys with my mom.

You see it there on the shelf. There's only one in stock. You have to get it. Your life depends on it. You break out in a dead sprint, pushing people out of the way to grab the lone one remaining. Your heart is racing as you hold your most prized posession high in the air for everyone to see. But something is wrong. The box feels empty. The salesperson says its only a display. What size do you wear? I'm not sure we have that in stock, let me check. And your heart is in a million pieces on the floor as he disappears into the back. When he FINALLY reappears your heart lifts at the sight of a box, your rip open the top before he has a chance to hand it over to you, disaster. Wrong style. He quickly disappears again and you start to get nervous, how can your life be complete without this shoe?

Luckily they had my size. And luckily I found a dress on clearence to match. Brian said there was no way I could join the USO so I guess they will have to wait for date night. Scratch that, we can't afford one after the shopping spree.

Keeping it real

Don't worry he said sweet things following this oh so romantic exchange. And the note he left me for breakfast yesterday got him quite a few points so I guess I'll keep him.

The Waiting Place

The Waiting Place...
...for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, or perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.

Dr. Seuss

We are just waiting, ok well Brian is waiting and I am trying to keep Brian from going crazy. Just waiting.

The Zoo!

I've been bad about starting blogs and not finishing them. Not that this one is exciting at all, but I am going to finish it now because I should be studying for an Adolescent Guidance Test right now.

We went to the Zoo! He stayed content in the stroller for about five minutes.

For those of you who have never seen an advark, here you go. I thought he was the goofiest! looking thing I'd ever seen. He was so big and had such a little bitty head, no wonder he eats ants he couldn't swallow anything else!
Brian and Chase braved the reptile and bug house, this is as close as Mama got to any slimies or creepy crawlies. The lizard bench.
Chase loved the baby elephant statue more the real elephants.

But elephants are pretty awesome. I wonder if the new guy has to scoop their poop.

Chase loved the sea otters becuase they were eye level.

He also loved the gorilla even though this is about all we got to see. No amount of banging or yelling got this guy to move an inch (not by us of course, by the teenage boy idiot). You ever go to the zoo and think an animal is dead? This was one of those times...

We walk over to the giraffe and right away he comes walking over to us and lowers his head like he was going to visit us. Awesome! Until the food van pulled up next to us. Here you can see Chase pointing out an airplane. We have lots of pictures like this.

Face Lift

Whoa girls no not that kind...the started and finished during naptime kind.
Don't let him fool you, he slept through the whole thing. Did you know a toddler could sleep through a staple gun? This one can, probably sounded like a lullaby to him. I found the fabric in the clearance pile at Hobby Lobby for $5 a yard and decided it was about time for a new (ok I was just going for clean) look for the chairs. I do love it so.
