The best birthday gift is not your husband forgetting your birthday.

Sunday we get up, eat breakfast together, go to church, come home. I somehow knew it just didn't dawn on him but being the procrastinator he is, I also somehow knew he hadn't gotten some much as a card. Part of me is very humored by this, the other part not so much. I have a terrible habit of expecting a lot, and when I don't get it, well you know. So I'm sitting on the couch debating how nicely I want to break the news to him. He could tell something was wrong so he asks what I wanted to do today. I said go study so we can go out later. (Lightbulb) Poor guy. I really felt sorry for him, its not like I need anything for my birthday, he's wonderful everyday. Bless his heart I'm pretty darn sure he's not going to make that mistake again. Regardless I felt no guilt ordering the 30 dollar steak at the restaurant on the lake or for making him take me to the Cheesecake Factory for dessert.
My point was not only to point out to the world he forgot my birthday but to tell Brian how wonderful he is. His complete selflessness is a painful reminder of how selfish I can be, and I admire him so much for being my rock in such a conflicting world. The best birthday gift for me is not a dozen roses and dinner, its that Brian chose to spend everyday with me. No one else could love me as deeply and be so good to me.
Besides, when we're 70 it'll make a great story :)
Awe... that was sweet and hilarious! I'm sorry Brian forgot your birthday and I am glad you guys had a nice dinner and dessert later on in the evening. I can completely relate to expecting too much and the complexity of the entire situation. Boo for being selfish (on my part)... Anyway, Happy Birthday! :)
ReplyDeleteawww Brit! It will def. make for a good story when you're 70! When Isaac went to OTS. Not only did he forget my Birthday, but I got an anniversary card instead! Which would be fine but our anniversary is in Nov. lol. Men!
ReplyDeletei loved reading about this, y'all would make a wonderful sitcom! despite the fact that he failed to remember your birthday, your husband sounds so endearingly sweet :)
