As the new year started I found myself full of fear. Fear of what the new year might bring. What it might not bring. I have to admit a lot of my fear stems from government and federal headlines.
Sandyhook. Mental illness. Gun Control. 2nd Amendment.
Hobby Lobby. Morning after-pill. Definition of life. Supreme Court. Obamacare.
"Fiscal Cliff." Taxes. Defense Cuts. Tricare. Retirement.
Some fear from elsewhere...
Chase. 3 years old. Preschool. Time for another? Bad pregnancy the first time.
Pilot training. 6 more months. Assignment night. Next airplane. Starting over.
Little Yellow House. Old. Repairs. Leaving so soon. Becoming landlords.
I found myself in bed on New's Years Eve worried about so many things because I really feel that this year determines so much for us personally and career-wise. Now that we are back at home without cable I'm ready to turn the news off and, as they say, "let the world go to hell in a hand basket."
Or is it?
Psalm 119:64
"The earth is filled with your love, Lord..."
Proverbs 3:19
"By wisdom the Lord laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place."
Job 19:25
"I know that my redeemer lives and that in the end he will stand on the earth."
My devotional this morning was just what I needed.
"Your family may hear about the terrible condition the world is in and how it has never been more depraved or Godless. But sometimes we get so focused on the negative aspects of this world, we overlook the positive. There are echoes of His majesty all around us. You can see the fingerprints of God in mountains and oceans, in sunrises and sunsets, and even in the kind acts of strangers towards each other. The earth is full of God's work."
It goes on but I just shook my head as I read this. I have nothing to fear. Welcome 2013.
I've been worrying about the same things.Great verses! This is my personal fav...
ReplyDeleteWho of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
