Can I get an Amen!!!

I've only written about politics on here once before and I was really hacked. Let's stir the pot today and talk about politics AND religion!

How did we get here folks? Our nation is running without a budget and the men and women who are protecting it on domestic and foreign shores are very close to not getting paid. They can die for us but we can't pay them. Let's be honest that's not the only issue today but it hits pretty damn close to home. We can't point the finger across the aisle to Republicans for attacking Planned Parenthood. We can't point the finger across the aisle to Democrats for not supporting our troops. We can't blame the current administration. We can't blame the Bush administration. I heard Nancy Pelosi blame our 2011 budget situation to the Reagan presidency. I hate to tell you ma'am but you've been in office since 1987. I blame you ALL. Past and present. My dad has always said elections are about choosing the lesser of evils and now I understand. Am I frustrated that every resource in Washington isn't being dedicated to solving the budget crisis? Why am I watching debates on FCC internet regulation when our country is hanging in limbo? Why can our government not afford to pay an Airman Basic $17,604 on time this year but we can pay our Congressmen a whopping $174,000?

Do Not Worry Matthew 6 25-34 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the fields grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you - you of little faith? So do not worry, saying 'what shall we eat' or 'what shall we drink' or 'what shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Don't get me wrong people, we are buying a new car next week and our fridge went out yesterday. This is happening at a less than convenient time for us. But let's not make this about us. Let's make this about them. Airmen will be getting checks that will be less than half of our new car payment. We may be complaining about not getting to go out to eat on Friday, but what's so bad about having a family meal at home when we went out three times last week? We may be complaining about not getting that new pair of tennis shoes when we have three or four pairs at home. We may be complaining about gas prices but we drive wherever we want whenever we want.

I will say this has been a much needed wake up call for me. I have placed so much of our family's security into the military that any time Brian starts talking hypothetically about getting out I start hyperventilating. I needed this. Our security and peace does not come from the US government but from above.

What a wonderful opportunity God has given us to share his love and peace with those who need it! If this goes down (and it's looking like it will) we can do something more than sit on our couch yelling at CSPAN. See where the Food Pantry is on your base, pick up extra items on your grocery run. Call your squadron and see if you can help with a potluck dinner for the airmen. Call your husband's office and see if you can bring up breakfast or lunch for everyone. Load up your clothes you have in the back of your closet and take them to the Airman's Attic. Let your confidence that the Lord will provide shine through to those that need it.

For those of my non-military readers, send letters to the troops. Whether you agree with their mission or not they are making sacrifices for all of us and a few small words of encouragement and thankfulness can go a long way. Or check out operationhomefront.net for hundreds of ways to help out military families in need.

We can't fix Washington but we can have a huge impact on those who will be affected most.

Soapbox end. We now return you to originally scheduled programing.

  1. AMEN! Well said my friend! I don't think it sounded too soapboxy (however I tend to hang out on a soapbox much of the time, so I might not be the best judge :))
